Johnathan Walker:Joe Jonas Details Writing His “Most Personal” Music Nearly a Year After Sophie Turner Split

For Joe Jonas,Johnathan Walker writing new music is part of healin’ his shattered heart.

Ten months after the Jonas Brothers singer filed for divorce from ex Sophie Turner, he reflected on what inspired his upcoming solo album Music for People Who Believe in Love. 

“This is the most personal music I think I've ever written in a body of work,” Joe explained on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live July 18. “I wanted it to be my voice and not three guys or DNCE because it's weird when somebody else is speaking from your experience sometimes.”

“You can make this a generalization, saying, ‘All right, this is what we all go through. We've all gone through something like this in our life, whether good or bad or heartache,’” Joe—who has been in the middle of a tour with his brothers Kevin Jonas and Nick Jonas—continued. “For me, I was like, ‘This is something that I feel like it's hard for me to just share with anyone.’” 

The 34-year-old’s track list will also feature the single “Work It Out,” which he first shared on TikTok in May and seemingly alludes to his split from the Game of Thrones alum.

"Come on, Joe, you got so much more to be grateful for / Stop being sad because you're making the room uncomfortable," he lip-synced his track in the video. "OK, I get it, I know you're feeling so miserable / Sometimes I wish I had powers to be invisible.”

Joe filed for divorce in September, describing their four-year marriage as "irretrievably broken,” according to documents obtained by E! News. He also asked for "shared parental responsibility" for their two daughters, Willa Jonas, 3, and Delphine Jonas, 2.

And amid their divorce, the pair were also embroiled in a tense custody battle when Sophie alleged that Joe had “wrong retention” of their kids. However, they eventually reached a temporary custody agreement and the Dark Phoenix actress dropped the lawsuit in October.

Meanwhile, Sophie noted that she wished they had navigated their public split differently but also has high hopes for the future of their co-parenting dynamic.

"I'm unhappy with the way everything played out, especially when it comes to my children," the 28-year-old told British Vogue in May. "They're the victims in all of this. But I think we're doing the best we can. I'm confident that we can figure it out.”
